In a crowded snack bar market where brands compete on protein content, packaging, and lifestyle positioning, KiZE Concepts has carved out a distinctly human space. The Oklahoma City company produces clean, simple food bars that are now appearing on shelves across major national retailers. Yet for KiZE, the product is only part of the story. At its core is a mission that reaches far beyond nutrition.

What began as a kitchen startup has grown into a rapidly scaling manufacturer with national reach. Along the way, the company has remained grounded in a purpose that is both personal and community-focused. KiZE is not just producing bars. It is creating second-chance employment, feeding vulnerable populations, mentoring at-risk youth, and investing in solutions around homelessness.

Rooted in Purpose

At its core, KiZE Concepts manufactures what Ragan describes as clean, simple, real-food bars. The products are designed to be accessible, great-tasting, and made with straightforward ingredients. Today, they are sold through Amazon and the company’s website, as well as retailers including Costco, Sam’s Club, Sprouts, Whole Foods, and are now expanding into Walmart and Target.

That mission extends directly into hiring practices. Ragan emphasizes that the company is intentionally focused on creating opportunities for individuals facing employment barriers.

He notes that KiZE is “focused on providing jobs for those overcoming addiction, homelessness, incarceration, and different backgrounds that prevent people from having a better future or even a better present,” reinforcing that impact is not an afterthought, but a core function of the business.

This philosophy is deeply tied to the company’s location. KiZE’s former facility sat directly across from the largest day shelter in Oklahoma City, placing the team in daily proximity to individuals experiencing homelessness. Rather than distancing itself, the company chose to engage.

Ragan reflects that the team strives to “practice loving and serving our neighbors,” a mindset that has shaped both company culture and community relationships.

From Startup to Scale

KiZE’s growth story begins with a hands-on approach. Ragan started by doing everything himself, from production to delivery. Looking back, he recalls “hand making, hand packing, hand labeling, hand sealing, hand delivering, hand everything for years,” a period that built the foundation for what the company is today.

The journey has not been without significant challenges. Like many businesses, KiZE was heavily impacted by COVID, a time that tested its resilience. Ragan candidly shares, “COVID really killed us. We built our building right before COVID, and it was a real miracle that we survived.”

Even so, the company rebounded. Production scaled from a few million units annually to more than 20 million, with projections now aiming toward 50 to 70 million units in the near term.

To support that growth, KiZE recently moved into a nearly 40,000-square-foot facility, significantly expanding its production capabilities. The transition, however, has come with complexity.

Ragan explains that the team is actively working on integrating multiple production lines, noting that they are “trying to get it to three lines” while managing the realities of rapid expansion. He adds candidly, “They call it growing pains for a reason.”

Growth with Discipline

While the numbers are impressive, Ragan remains focused on how growth is achieved, not just how fast. “We want to be a people-first place and a people-first business,” he says, emphasizing that culture must remain intact even as the company scales. At the same time, he is clear that the purpose must be supported by performance.

“The mission stuff is cool, but we have to be an excellent business,” Ragan states. “We have to be really good at making better products more consistently, more efficiently, and serving our customers at a high level.”

That balance is shaping decisions across the organization. In production, KiZE is exploring automation and improved layouts to increase efficiency while creating opportunities for employees to develop new skills.

Ragan is quick to address concerns about technology, explaining that “getting equipment is not a threat to people’s jobs. It is a help,” reinforcing the company’s commitment to growth and development. The company is also beginning to explore how data and AI can support better decision-making, particularly in areas where insights can improve efficiency and resource allocation.

Retail Expansion Driving Momentum

A major driver of KiZE’s growth has been its expansion into national retail. The journey began with a small test in nine Sam’s Club locations. What was initially expected to be temporary quickly evolved into something much larger. Today, KiZE products are sold in approximately 300 Sam’s Club stores.

Costco followed a similar trajectory, expanding from a handful of locations to broader regional placements. Now, KiZE is entering Walmart, Target, Whole Foods, and Sprouts locations nationwide.

For Ragan, these opportunities are deeply meaningful. He reflects, “People that genuinely believe in you and give you a chance, that means the world to me,” acknowledging the role that trusted partnerships have played in the company’s growth.

Still, he remains grounded in the realities of retail performance. “At the end of the day, if people do not like the product and the sales are not there, we are not going to last very long,” he admits, underscoring that success ultimately depends on customer response.

That clarity shapes KiZE’s approach. While the mission resonates, it is the product that must lead. Ragan adds that the goal is always to deliver “clean, simple, great snack bars that people love and feel good about.”

Delivering Impact Where It’s Needed

While retail growth is accelerating, KiZE’s community work remains central to its identity.

For more than five years, the company has hosted a monthly outreach event in partnership with Comeback Kid Society. These gatherings provide meals, supplies, and support to individuals experiencing homelessness while also engaging at-risk youth in acts of service.

Ragan often points to a guiding principle: “Resources plus relationship equals real life change.” That philosophy is evident in how the events unfold. Beyond serving food, the team encourages conversation, interaction, and genuine connection.

As Ragan explains, “The gift of friendship, the gift of knowing people’s name, the gift of caring, sometimes can go a lot farther than giving them a meal or giving them a jacket.”

KiZE’s outreach extends further. During COVID, the company donated more than one million bars to support school food programs. It has also supported youth initiatives and athletic programs throughout the community.

Another key initiative is its prison outreach. For the past two years, KiZE has produced tens of thousands of bars annually for distribution during the holiday season, providing a higher-quality option in an environment where food choices are often limited.

Ragan frames this work through dignity. “We care about people who are in that place in life, and we believe they deserve dignity too,” he says.

Reimagining Space for Greater Purpose

The company’s recent move to a larger facility has created an opportunity to deepen its impact.
With its former building now vacant, Ragan is exploring how the space might be repurposed to serve the community more directly. He has been meeting with nonprofit leaders and local partners to determine the most effective use.

“I just feel really moved to continue to expand the mission and play our part in homelessness,” Ragan shares. The possibilities include shelter services, job programs, or partnerships with existing organizations. While the exact direction is still being determined, the intent is clear.

Ragan notes that what initially felt like a potential loss has become an opportunity, explaining that the move may ultimately allow the company “to continue to try to serve and make an impact in our community” in even greater ways.

Guided by Values

Even as the company experiences rapid growth, Ragan remains focused on what matters most.
“I do not care about stuff. I care about making a difference,” he reflects, a statement that captures both his leadership style and the culture shaping KiZE Concepts.

That perspective is further grounded by personal milestones, including his recent marriage and the anticipation of his first child. These experiences have brought added clarity to his priorities. Ragan adds that he aims “to inspire, to connect, and to be a good steward,” a mindset that continues to guide both his decisions and the company’s direction.

Momentum to Meaningful Growth

As KiZE looks to the future, its priorities remain disciplined and focused. Strengthening culture, maintaining product quality, and executing well within existing retail partnerships are at the forefront.

“We have to win where we are at,” Ragan says, emphasizing the importance of performing well in current placements before pursuing further expansion. Success in those areas will not only sustain growth but also create new opportunities, bringing the company closer to its long-term production goals.

On the mission side, the former facility remains a key opportunity. In Ragan’s view, success will be measured by how quickly and effectively that space can be used to serve others. “In a dream scenario, that space is getting used in the next month or two, and it is impacting more people every day than we ever could if we were still operating out of there,” he says.

As Ragan puts it, the purpose remains simple and clear. “If we can make a difference in the lives of others, then that is what we are here for.”
