Mayor Joyce L. Davis sets the tone for the city’s evolution with clarity and purpose. “Dania Beach is redefining what it means to be a destination city where history and innovation, safety, culture, and community meet the sea,” Mayor Davis says.

This vision is not simply aspirational. It is guided by a comprehensive strategic framework. Originally adopted as Vision 2036 and later expanded into Vision 2040, the plan aligns all major initiatives across the city, ensuring growth is intentional, coordinated, and sustainable.

“We are aligning everything through our strategic plan so that our natural beauty intersects with economic opportunity,” Mayor Davis explains.

Activating the Heart of the City

One of the most exciting components of Dania Beach’s transformation is the creation of a vibrant arts and entertainment district. Located along the northwest and southwest corridors, this walkable district is designed to bring people together through culture, dining, and shared experiences.

“The most exciting part of our strategic vision is the arts and entertainment district,” Mayor Davis says. “We are activating the back half of US 1 to bring more restaurants and outdoor activity that will drive community engagement and economic value.”

This activation is already taking shape through initiatives like the popular Dania After Dark series. Held on the second Saturday of every month, these themed events have become a cornerstone of community life and a powerful draw for visitors.

“We are seeing over 11,000 visitors coming from across South Florida and beyond,” Mayor Davis notes. “Some have even come from international locations like Switzerland.”

Complementing these events is a wave of new development. The Dania 101 project, led by Apollo Companies, introduces a modern mixed-use approach to downtown living. Offering residential units alongside retail and lifestyle amenities, the development is attracting a diverse mix of residents, including younger generations and new cultural communities.

“It is bringing brand new life into our downtown,” Mayor Davis adds.

Equally important is the city’s commitment to inclusive housing. Through partnerships with organizations such as Truist Bank and United Way, Dania Beach is delivering affordable housing that is both accessible and aesthetically appealing.

“We have affordable housing that does not look like affordable housing,” Mayor Davis explains. “It looks like a high-end development, and that is intentional.” This approach reflects a broader commitment to dignity in housing and ensuring that all residents feel a sense of pride in where they live.

Master Planning for Mobility and Livability

As growth accelerates, Dania Beach is ensuring that infrastructure keeps pace. A suite of master plans is guiding improvements in transportation, landscaping, and overall urban design.

“We are the blueprint for master planning,” Mayor Davis reflects.

The transportation master plan is particularly critical, as it addresses one of the most common concerns among residents: mobility. By introducing bike lanes, exploring micro transit options, and considering shuttle or trolley systems, the city aims to enhance connectivity while reducing congestion.

“We are looking at how we can create more walkability and movement while mitigating traffic issues,” Mayor Davis says.

These efforts are complemented by a landscaping master plan that will enhance the visual appeal of key corridors such as Dania Beach Boulevard, and U.S.1 reinforcing the city’s identity as a welcoming and attractive destination. Together, these plans ensure that growth does not compromise quality of life.

Leveraging Strategic Location for Economic Growth

Dania Beach’s location is one of its greatest assets. Situated near Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport and Port Everglades, the city benefits from proximity to two of South Florida’s most significant economic engines.

This connectivity is driving tourism, business attraction, and workforce development.

“We are uniquely positioned because of our proximity to aviation and marine industries,” Mayor Davis explains.

A key economic driver is Dania Pointe, a major retail and entertainment hub that has become the city’s largest employer. With nearly 8 million visitors over the past year, it serves as both a commercial center and a gateway for travelers.

“Tourists, airline crews, and cruise passengers all come to Dania Beach,” Mayor Davis says. “Some stay before or after their trips, and others come because it is so close to the airport.”

The city has also partnered with Visit Lauderdale to promote its offerings worldwide.

“It is a very exciting time to be in Dania Beach,” Mayor Davis reflects. “We are no longer the forgotten city. We are on the map.” Increased visibility is translating into tangible economic gains and long-term investment interest.

Building Capacity for a Diverse Community

As demand increases, Dania Beach is taking a proactive approach to housing development. The city is identifying underutilized properties and creating a clear roadmap for future growth.

“We are building a roster of opportunities across the city,” Mayor Davis explains. “We want developers to see where they can align with our vision.”

Affordable housing remains a priority, with ongoing collaboration between the city, housing authorities, and nonprofit organizations.

“We are continuing to expand visibility and access to affordable housing opportunities,” Mayor  Davis notes.

The city is also exploring additional mixed-use developments to further activate the downtown core, ensuring that future growth supports both economic vitality and residential convenience.

Investing in Resilience and Infrastructure

Infrastructure investment is another cornerstone of Dania Beach’s strategy. The city is currently undertaking its largest project to date, a $32 million Southeast Drainage Project designed to enhance flood mitigation and stormwater management.

“This is a historic investment for our city,” Mayor Davis says.

In addition, a comprehensive Stormwater Master Plan has identified 11 vulnerable areas, allowing the city to prioritize future improvements based on data and community input.

“These projects ensure that we are prepared for growth while protecting our residents and environment,” Mayor Davis explains. These investments also demonstrate a proactive approach to climate resilience in a coastal environment.

Where Neighbors Become Family

While development and infrastructure are critical, the true heart of Dania Beach lies in its people.

“We have a very special community,” Mayor Davis says. “It feels like family.”

From beach cleanups to holiday celebrations, community events are designed to bring residents together and strengthen bonds.

A standout project is a $23 million park renovation featuring a turf football field, playgrounds, courts, swimming pools, and a state-of-the-art fitness center.

“This is a world-class park,” Mayor Davis adds. “It will serve residents of all ages.” These investments reinforce the city’s commitment to wellness, recreation, youth and senior programming, and inclusive spaces.

Partnerships That Drive Impact

Collaboration is central to Dania Beach’s success. The city works closely with a wide range of partners to deliver programs and services that benefit residents.

Organizations such as the Dan Marino Foundation play a key role in promoting inclusion and workforce readiness.

“We are preparing both individuals and employers to embrace inclusion,” Mayor Davis explains.

Another important partner, Rebuilding Together Broward, has helped renovate more than 120 homes.

Local businesses such as Lucky Fish Beach Bar + Grill and the Dania Beach Casino also actively support community initiatives, while Spirit Airlines contributes to educational outreach.

Preservation with Purpose

As Dania Beach looks ahead, it remains firmly grounded in its history, recognizing that its past plays a vital role in shaping its future.

“We are very proud of our 122-year history as Broward County’s first city,” Mayor Davis says.

That pride is reflected in investments in historic preservation, including the restoration of the Nyberg Swanson House and the acquisition of the Frost House, which have created new opportunities for community use and engagement.

“We are preserving our history while creating new opportunities,” Mayor Davis reflects.

Art, Culture, and a Creative Future

Building on that foundation, Dania Beach is embracing a more expressive future, with public art becoming a defining element of the city’s character.

“We are turning the city into a canvas,” Mayor Davis explains.

Recent additions, including a Veterans mural and a large-scale sea turtle sculpture by renowned artist Wyland, enhance both cultural expression and visitor experience, helping define a strong and memorable sense of place.

Momentum That Carries Forward

As Dania Beach moves into 2026 and 2027, its priorities remain clear and rooted in its strategic vision. With continued focus on strengthening key industries, expanding partnerships, and building momentum, the city is positioning itself for sustained success.

“We are focused on strengthening our partnerships within the marine and aviation industries,” Mayor Davis explains. “We are also expanding tourism and economic opportunities.”

With a foundation built on planning, community connection, and location, the path forward reflects both confidence and clarity.

“You can sea it, live it, and love it here,” Mayor Davis concludes.
